Western Mountains District

Western Mountains District covers half of Montana, from central Montana west to the Idaho border. Our landscape showcases the most beautiful of God’s creations under the Big Sky of Montana. This beauty is in the wheat fields of central Montana, our cattle ranches, the Rocky Mountains and Glacier National Park. Our beauty comes not only from the land but, from the people inhabiting it. Our culture is rooted in the history of the many Indian tribes who are native to Montana as well as the immigrants who came to mine for gold and silver, the cowboys, the sheep herders, and the farmers that settled here.

Many of our Methodist churches were served by Brother Van, a circuit riding preacher well known in Montana.  Brother Van also established the Montana Children’s Home in Helena, MT. We have UWF units in rural communities as well as large urban communities. Unique to our district is the inclusion of one community in Idaho, which is Salmon, Idaho.

2026 Western Mountains District Fall Annual Gathering

The Western Mountains District held their Annual Gathering on Sept 26th at Epworth United Methodist Church in Kalispell, MT.  The meeting theme was "Dream It, Believe It, Do It".  Our Ubuntu project was to bring donations for the Abbie Shelter in support of their services to survivors of violence and sexual assault.  Our meeting also included a Book Exchange and a Legacy Fund donation station.
